Publication Ethics

Scientific publication of an article is the result of the intellectual work of an individual or a group of individuals. After undergoing scientific review, it is disseminated in the form of scientific written works, including journals, books, proceedings, research reports, papers, and scientific posters. Scientific publication is a direct reflection of the quality of the author’s scientific writing and the institution in which the author works. Therefore, it is important to agree upon the ethical standards of conduct expected of all parties involved in the process of publication: authors, editors, reviewers, publishers, and the public.

The Faculty of Pharmacy, Institut Ilmu Kesehatan Bhakti Wiyata Kediri, as the publisher of the Jurnal Pharma Bhakta, performs the role of overseeing all stages of publication meticulously, including ethical and other related responsibilities. We are committed to ensuring that advertisements, reprints, or other commercial revenues do not influence editorial decisions. In addition, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Editorial Board will assist communication with other journals and/or publishers whenever this is useful and necessary.

EDITOR

The editors of the Pharma Bhakta Journal determine the publication process and integrate the functions of authors, reviewers, and journal managers to publish scientific works in accordance with scientific and ethical principles. The editorial board responds to criticism, suggestions, and objections from authors honestly and transparently. The editorial board also upholds the independence of the journal from purely commercial considerations and strives to maintain the journal as a leading publication in its field. Editors work based on the following principles and ethical standards:

  • Responsible for selecting journal content and continuously striving to improve the quality of publications.

  • Required to prepare author guidelines and their templates.

  • Critically assess that manuscripts are free from ethical violations, and evaluate them honestly, objectively, and independently, focusing solely on quality without considering nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation, and free from bias in decision-making, including when selecting reviewers.

  • Ensure that the manuscript review process is conducted thoroughly, transparently, objectively, and fairly.

  • Guarantee that all published manuscripts have undergone review by qualified reviewers.

  • Ensure the suitability of selected reviewers according to their expertise. Reviewers chosen are those capable of assessing the manuscript and free from conflicts of interest.

  • Reject manuscripts without review if they do not fall within the journal’s scope or are of low quality, but not due to the author’s background or institutional affiliation.

  • Ensure that published research complies with the ethical publishing guidelines issued by LIPI and other relevant international guidelines.

  • Provide forms for authors to sign regarding ethical statements (ethical clearance) and copyright agreements.

REVIEWER

A reviewer is an individual who assists the editorial board by critically evaluating the substance of a manuscript in accordance with their field of expertise; therefore, reviewers hold a crucial role in the process of scientific publication. Reviewers work based on the following principles and ethical standards:

  • Required to act honestly, objectively, without bias, independently, and solely in the interest of scientific truth.

  • Must critically evaluate the content of a manuscript according to their expertise, remain open to new perspectives, maintain confidentiality of the manuscript being reviewed, refrain from personal gain from the manuscript, and be committed to improving the manuscript they review.

  • Responsible for assisting the editorial board in determining which manuscripts are suitable for publication and helping authors improve the quality of their manuscripts.

  • Expected to uphold fundamental principles and scientific analysis in conducting the review process.

  • Review results must be conveyed honestly, objectively, and supported by clear arguments. Possible review recommendations include: (i) accepted without revision or accepted with minor revisions (after revision by the author, no need to return to the reviewer), (ii) accepted with major revisions (after revision by the author, to be reviewed again by the reviewer), (iii) rejected and recommended for publication elsewhere, (iv) rejected and recommended not to be published due to scientific flaws or potential harm to users/the public.

  • Must not use the reviewed manuscript for personal or third-party purposes. Use of any part of the manuscript requires permission from the author. Manuscripts under review must not be disseminated.

AUTHOR

An author in a scientific journal is an individual who presents the results of thoughts and/or research and development in the form of a written work that meets scientific and ethical standards. Research is conducted to obtain new knowledge, enrich scientific understanding beyond existing knowledge, or provide scientific solutions to problems encountered. The outcomes of this process represent the author’s contribution to scientific knowledge. Authors work based on the following scientific and ethical requirements:

  • Make a statement that the submitted manuscript is original, has never been published anywhere in any language, and is not under consideration by another publisher. If errors are found, the author must immediately notify the editorial board or publisher.

  • Ensure that the listed authors and their order reflect their respective contributions and are agreed upon by all authors. Any changes to the authorship list must be approved by all authors. All non-substantive contributors must be acknowledged appropriately.

  • Bear collective responsibility for the work and contents of the article, including methods, analysis, calculations, and details.

  • Inform the editorial board if they intend to withdraw their manuscript.

  • Inform the editorial board if the manuscript is part of staged research, multidisciplinary work, or involves different perspectives.

  • If requested, provide evidence that the conducted research meets ethical research requirements, including field notes or a research logbook. Authors must respond adequately to comments or feedback after publication.

  • Must not engage in plagiarism or self-plagiarism. Redundant (duplicate) publication is strictly prohibited in the Jurnal Pharma Bhakta.
